    PVAC Programs

Pomona Valley Alumnae Chapter strives to carry out the programs of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. through the implementation of the Five Point Thrust Program.  Some PVA programs and events include:

    Jabberwock

Jabberwock provides cultural activities for teens within the community.  It gives the teens the opportunity to interact with African American woman role models through a sponsorship program.  The Miss Jabberwock Pageant allows young ladies a chance to participate in a pageant that does not focuses on physical appearance, but rather allows them to develop lasting friendships, showcase their talent, raise money to support local charities in their community and  receive a scholarship towards their education.

    Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy

Delta Academy is designed to assist young women age 11-14 with their self-discovery.  The Academy utilizes a program called SEE (Science in Everyone Experience) which focuses on the arts, non-traditional careers, self-esteem, preparation for college, money management, physical fitness, overall wellness, and sisterhood.  Additionally, the Academy has a distinct focus on encouraging and assisting participants in pursuing education and ultimately careers in math, science, and technology.

    Delta GEMS

Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) is designed for young women age 14-18.  The Delta Gems program broadens the participant’s understanding of sisterhood, scholarship, and service and is dedicated to helping young women grow into womanhood by offering life skills advice and career guidance. Topics of the monthly workshops include:

    • Self Esteem and Leadership
    • Health Awareness
    • Academic Excellence
    • Financial Responsibility
    • Social Responsibility
    • Planning for the Future and Goal Setting
    • Community Service

The annual Black Culture Festival is held in cooperation with the Pomona Public Library to showcase local talent, provide health screening, organize children's activities, and promote voter registration.  The Black Culture Festival also encourages patronage of local businesses by including an array of vendors in the event.
